What Does Your Employed Salary Translate To?

As a freelancer, you cover your own holiday pay, pension, sick days, and administration. The typical overhead is 17,000-21,000 kr./month.

Rule of thumb

Your hourly rate needs to be at least your employed hourly wage × 2 to break even. Often × 2.2-2.5 for it to genuinely make financial sense. To match a salaried 60,000 kr./month package, you need to invoice roughly 77,000-81,000 kr./month.

When Does Freelancing Make Sense?

  • You have a strong niche competency (SAP, Salesforce, cybersecurity, cloud migration).
  • You have a network that generates contracts.
  • You have at least 5-7 years of experience.
