How LønRadar collects salary data: Methodology and sources

Where does LønRadar's data come from?

All data on LønRadar is submitted voluntarily by workers employed in Denmark. We do not buy data, we do not scrape job listings, and we do not guess. Every number on the site can be traced back to a concrete submission from a real person who contributed their own salary.

Users contribute in two ways:

1. Manual submission. The user fills out a form with job title, base salary, employer pension, any supplements and bonuses, region, experience level, sector, and industry. It takes under two minutes.
2. Payslip upload. The user uploads their payslip directly in the browser. Name and CPR number are removed client-side - we never receive non-anonymised payslips. Our AI extracts the relevant entries, and a team member manually compares the extracted numbers against the uploaded payslip.

Contributions confirmed via payslip are classified as verified and are what the statistics on the site are built on. Manual submissions without a payslip are not included in the public tables.

How large is the data set?

Current data (live on the front page):

• Total contributions: 5.268 submissions
• Verified payslips: 1.114 analysed payslips
• Job titles covered: 58 job titles with published statistics
• Regions: 6 statistical regions in Denmark + 4 major cities (Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg)

Today, the largest single group of contributors is employed in the IT sector, and that is also where we have the broadest coverage across job titles and regions. We accept submissions from all sectors - as long as a role does not yet have 50 verified contributions, we publish no statistics for it.

How is a payslip verified?

Verification is manual. Each payslip is opened by a team member at LønRadar, who compares:

• Base salary on the payslip against the base salary in the user's submission
• Employer pension (DKK and percentage)
• Supplements, bonuses, and any one-off payments
• Pay period and calculation method (monthly vs. hourly)

If the numbers do not match, we correct the submission to reflect what the payslip shows. If something does not add up at all (wrong currency, wrong country, unclear document), the contribution is discarded. Payslips are deleted after the analysis is complete.

How is the statistics calculated?

For each job title, we calculate the 25th percentile, median (50th percentile), 75th percentile, and average. We highlight the median because it is not skewed by individual outliers.

Total salary = base salary + employer pension in DKK. Bonuses and supplements are shown separately.

Thresholds:

• At least 50 verified contributions per job title before we publish
• At least 15 verified contributions per region before we show a region-specific table
• Sample size is shown next to each table as "Based on N submissions"

Statistics below the threshold are not shown - not even in a diluted form.

Update frequency

Statistics are updated continuously. Each time a new verified contribution comes in, percentiles are automatically recalculated for that role and region. This means a job title page you visit today may show a slightly different median tomorrow. The page's "Last updated" date shows the most recent recalculation.

Anonymisation and privacy

We designed LønRadar with anonymity as the starting point, not an afterthought:

• Name and CPR are removed in the user's browser, before the file leaves the device
• Login and salary data are cryptographically separated - there is no join on the server linking a user to a specific salary
• Payslips are deleted after manual verification
• We never show data that can be attributed to a single person; the minimum threshold of 50 contributions exists to protect against re-identification

Limitations - what the data CANNOT be used for

We are clear about where our data falls short:

• Not official statistics. We are not Statistics Denmark. We report what our contributors have shared - nothing more.
• Skewed sector coverage today. The IT sector is overrepresented among contributors. Other sectors are welcome, but do not yet have enough contributions for us to publish statistics for all roles.
• Self-selection. Users who choose to submit are not a random sample. People in salary negotiations are overrepresented.
• Not a prediction. We show what the market has shown, not what you will be offered.

We flag tables with fewer than 200 submissions so the reader knows the uncertainty is higher.

LønRadar's aggregated statistics are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). You are welcome to cite, translate, and use the numbers in articles, presentations, and research - including commercially - as long as you credit LønRadar with a link.
