EU Directive 2027

Salary in Job Postings: The New Requirement You Need to Know

Last updated:

You have applied for a job and spent three hours writing a motivated application. In the end, you find out the salary is 15,000 DKK too low.

From January 2027, that should not be able to happen. The EU requires companies to disclose salary ranges for new positions.

What Is the New Requirement?

Companies must disclose the salary range for new positions. It can be communicated by phone or email, but it is expected that many will state it directly in the job posting, as is done in many other countries.

The requirement applies from the Pay Transparency Directive's entry into force in Denmark - expected 7 January 2027.

What Is Enough - and What Is Not?

Meets the requirement

  • "Salary: 45,000-55,000 DKK/month"
  • "Starting salary from 48,000 DKK/month incl. pension"
  • "Salary range: 520,000-640,000 DKK/year"

Does not meet the requirement

  • "Salary by qualification"
  • "Competitive salary"
  • "Attractive salary package"
  • "Salary disclosed at interview"

Who Is Responsible?

The legal responsibility lies with the employer - even if it is a recruitment agency that created the posting. The agency is also obligated to ensure the salary is stated.

Does this apply to all types of positions? Yes. Permanent employees, part-time employees, and fixed-term positions are all covered.

What Does This Mean for Job Seekers?

You do not need to disclose your current salary during the hiring process. The employer is not allowed to ask about it.

In return, you can go into the interview knowing what the job pays - and compare it with what the market pays for your profile.

Frequently asked questions

Is it enough to write "salary by qualification"?

No. The directive requires a concrete salary range or starting salary - not a generic formulation. "Salary by qualification" does not meet the requirement.

What must the pay information in job postings include?

The job posting must state a starting salary or a salary range (e.g. 45,000-55,000 DKK/month). It must be clear and visible before the applicant submits an application.

Does the requirement also apply to recruitment agencies?

Yes. Recruitment agencies advertising on behalf of an employer are responsible for ensuring the pay information is included. However, the employer bears the legal responsibility.

When does the salary requirement for new positions apply?

From the directive's entry into force in Denmark, expected January 2027. For new job postings published from that date, the requirement applies in full.
